You do not have to have worked with youthful people before to volunteer with us, or be a “dad”, but an understanding and passion about our cause is inherent. We look for male volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and skill-sets. For example; for our Engage Programme we explore men who have practical life-skills they can educate the boys, these may include: Car maintenance, Bike repairs, Painting and decorating, Woodwork, DIY or similar trade skills.
For our Equip Programme we find that men who have outstanding active listening skills and the ability to depict alongside people, are suited to this role and the bush-craft and outdoor activities often attract the more outdoor type / ex-services for example!
Not only can we guarantee a huge amount of personal satisfaction but volunteering also makes you more employable according to The Institute for Volunteering Research.
The intensive training Lads Need Dads provides, equips our volunteers with numerous opportunities, should they wish to search a career within Health and Social Care, Youth Work, Psychology / Criminology.

3. Mountain Walks and Winter Mountain Walks
These are more strenuous, and will typically take a occupied day. There will be several hundreds of meters of ascent and descent, and the terrain and conditions will normally be more challenging, and the weather can have a much greater impact on the event. The group size will be smaller to reflect the more challenging conditions. You will require to have more equipment to hold part. If you already like hiking in mountainous terrain, these walks may be ideal for you.
Mountain walks are often, but not always, found as part of OutdoorLads hostel weekends, simply because the more remote locations can take too much time to receive to for them to be practical as day walks, especially on shorter winter days.
OutdoorLads runs Mountain Walking events all over the UK where there are mountains. Areas such as the Lake District, Snowdonia, and the Scottish Highlands.
Winter Mountain Walks are the most challenging, as you can expect there to be snow and ice and the conditions will be much tougher. As a result, the group size will also be smaller, to enable the event leader to guide the participants safel
