The subject of these pages, converting American English into French, is plainly one I cannot claim to understand much about. I am in proof familiar with only one small body of work that involves the process - my possess. That the serve is mine is largely irrelevant. What has led me to set down these remarks is that two of my translators, Georges Perec and Marie Chaix, have been highly gifted writers; that they produced translations of exceptional quality; and that I collaborated with them routinely in the process of translation.
