For years, Cody Alan's smiling face has greeted CMT viewers when they tune in to survey the country music channel's "Hot 20 Countdown." Thursday morning, Alan, 44, felt "finally comfortable enough" to document a deeply personal letter on Instagram in which he came out as gay.
He told his 123,000 followers, "2017. As we start a new year, there is something I want to share with you. You see, I’m gay. This is not a choice I made, but something I've known about myself my whole experience. Through life's twists and turns, marriage, divorce, fatherhood, successes, failures - I've landed on this morning, a day when I'm happier and healthier than I’ve ever been. And I’m finally comfortable enough for everyone to comprehend this truth about me...I’m still the same Cody I always was. You just know a minute more about me now. My hope for the future is to inhabit the most honest, legitimate, loving, and open experience possible. Here's to organism happy with yourself, no matter who you are, who you love, where you come from, or what cards life has dealt you."

Cody, 48, knew he was gay from a young age, but grew up Christian and converted to Mormonism as a teen — so he kept his orientation a secret, 'faking' his straightness and even marrying a Mormon woman.
They went on to have two children, now adults, who were raised Mormon as well.
But after coming out to his now ex-wife in 2009 — and publicly in 2017 — Cody tells People that his being was 'enhanced,' and he realized that the world isn't 'black and white.'

CMT and iHeartRadio host Cody Alan brought along a smile and someone exceptional, when he took at the 2017 CMT Harmony Awards' red carpet on Wednesday night. The happy-go-lucky host was all smiles when he was joined by his partner Michael Trea Smith at the country tune award show.
The couple made clear their affections for each other—holding each other's hands, as they posed for pics on the carpet.
Less than six months ago, Alan announced via Instagram that he was gay. Soon after his coming out, he revealed that he was digital dating the occupational therapist and began peppering his social media with sweet photos of the twosome. This is couple's first CMT Music Awards together and this is Alan's first CMT Music Awards red carpet as an out and proud gay man.
For the big debut, Alan donned a grey tuxedo jacket, white button-down shirt and black pants. His main man rocked a t-shirt, black jacket and black jeans. Of course, both rocked some beaming, toothy smiles.
